Taste of the Caribbean: Reviews & Ratings

My son is from Haiti and we came here hoping for a great experience, based on reviews. The interior is fun and pays homage to the carribean nations with flags around the walls. A stage at the front with an ample sound system promises some lively music. Plenty of TVS on the walls, and a nice looking bar. The servers were kind and friendly, but the food service from the kitchen was EXTREMELY slow. Nearly 1/2 hour to get our appetizer (cod fritters) and an hour to get our main courses -- goat curry and Jamaican jerk chicken. Surprising because the restaurant was not terribly busy. The food was a disappointment. The cod fish fritters were crispy with good consistency, but mostly just breading. I was unable to find any pieces of fish in one of them, and only one very small piece in another. The goat curry was junky meat -- mostly bones and fat, scant actual meat. I expected vibrant flavors and a little spice from a carribean curry, but the seasoning was undersalted and not particularly flavorful or spicy. The jerk chicken was a little better according to my son. But the chicken was overdone, and the skin was soft, not at all crispy. The rice and peas met our expectations. Hopefully it was just a bad night in the kitchen, but based on our experience we'll be looking elsewhere for carribean cooking.

Taste of the Caribbean delivers an authentic and unforgettable dining experience, and my recent meal of fried Parrot fish with rice and peas was nothing short of exceptional. Everything was seasoned to exceptional! This is a must visit spot if you’re craving an authentic and delicious Caribbean meal.

I ordered a few dishes because it was my first time trying Jamaican food outside of Jamaica. I didn't have time to dine in. The server was great! He offered some recommendations when asked and was polite throughout. Oxtail: great flavor but they put way too much gravy in the box (spills aren't fun to deal with). Nice tenderness, cooked right. Fried ripe plantain: This was one of the things I was really looking forward to but was disappointed. Slices were too thick so although the outer part was cooked appropriately, it was undercooked on the inside. I could fry them better myself at home. The plantain itself wasn't that sweet but maybe I'm expecting too much from imported plantain. Curry goat w/ rice & peas: probably the best dish we ordered. Authentic taste. No complaints, well-made! Festivals: Don't order these. They were way too sweet and tasted almost like donuts. Jerk chicken: Mediocre. There was the missing umph that you'd have with jerk chicken from back home. Not an authentic taste, but it's still jerk chicken I suppose. Couldn't quite put my finger on what was missing.

i never leave reviews but this place deserves it. the outdoor patio was so cute, our server was so nice n funny and the food was actually top tier. i got the fried chicken and i will dream about it. the batter was perfectly crispy with a lil spice and the chicken was juice and moist. it was genuinely amAZING. i tried my friends dishes and they were also equally as good. he offered me a sauce to go with the chicken but it was just so amazing i didn’t need any, but def would try it with the oxtail next time!

Absolutely amazing food. You KNOW a place is good when 3 people go there, get different meals and all end up arguing that their plate was the best one of the night after sharing. Everything was excellent, from apps to plates and even the different sodas (champagne cola ftw) Staff was super welcoming and in good spirits! Food was so excellent I can’t say enough how you’re missing out if you don’t try this place.

Second time coming here and still as delicious like I remember last summer. First time I came with my Dad and loved it this time I came with my brother and they also enjoyed it! They are currently knocked out with a food coma haha. Thank you for staying in business and giving Seattle some flavors of the Caribbean! Really need to come here for a fete or soca night haha

Definitely the most authentic Jamaican food I've found in Seattle. The stars of the menu are the jerk wings, the Jamaican patties, the oxtail, and the festivals. The callaloo is also really unique and hard to find elsewhere, so it's worth a try if you have room! Aside from the food, the vibe is really low-key and welcoming. They have a ton of strong rum drinks and it looks like they have DJs sometimes. The service was kind of rough tonight. It took quite a while for our food to come out, we had to remind our server about our drinks, and they were out of some items. But it was Juneteenth so they may have been short staffed or just overwhelmed with orders. I'm certainly looking forward to coming back!

The food was amazing! Chicken fell off the bone before I could it to my lips. The oxtails had a great stew flavor, and we were extremely tender and very light. Everything was seasoned well, and afterward, I didn't have that over indulged feeling. It's definitely a spot I will visit again. Oh, staff was great. It felt like a was somewhere in Jamaica with family.
